What does Worship and Music do? “It shall be the function of this committee to assist the Congregation Council in seeing that the services of God's house are conducted regularly and in accordance with the liturgy of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, that competent worship assistants (ushers, acolytes, etc.) and assisting lay ministers are recruited and trained, and that hymnals and other worship materials are provided and properly cared for. This committee shall supervise and strive to advance the welfare and effective service of the choirs of the congregation. It shall arrange for physical preparations for all services of worship (i.e., care, cleaning, and changing of paraments, vestments, altar, and communion ware). In consultation with the pastor, the organist, and the choir director(s), it shall furnish music supplies appropriate for use in the worship of a congregation of the ELCA. This committee shall recommend choir directors and organists, who will report to the pastor. This committee, along with the pastor, shall oversee the activities of the musicians.” Summer Memorial congregational constitution
Planning for worship covers a lot of ground so it may look like:
● Keeping in touch with Altar Guild for supplies needs
● Planning out special festival services such as Pentecost, All Saints, Christmas
● Planning and trying out newer services such as worship at Camp Kinard or Blessing of the Animals
● Thinking through what will be done for mid-week worship services
● Providing training for anyone who would like to help with worship or with altar guild.
● Give feedback after special services
Worship is the center of our life together at Summer. It’s what draws us all together and keeps us all together as we come and hear the Word of God proclaimed. Worship is what makes us a church. As we gather, we strive to make that time as meaningful as possible so that those who gather are inspired and empowered as they head out into the week. Worship and Music gives careful thought to how this happens.
