100 Years of Serving
During 2010, Summer Memorial Lutheran Church will celebrate her 100th Anniversary. Exciting events including four Sunday Night Live Supper Celebrations will involve the congregation in wonderful activities with the culmination of the annual Homecoming Celebration on August 1, 2010.
January 24,2010 - Saturday Night Live - Remembering - Led by Pastor John Weaver and Shirley Aughtry.
February 4, 2010 - Honoring Service to the church - Dallas Shealy will preach at the Sunday service.
March 14, 2010 - Sunday Night Live -- An Evening of Storytelling -- Led by John Halfacre and friends.
May 23, 2010 - Sunday Night Live -- The Friendly Church Family -- led by Carol Bickley. Learn about the fantastic families of Summer Memorial.
July 11, 2010 - Sunday Night Live -- An Unbelievable Birthday Party celebrating 100 years-- led by Faye Halfacre and Shirley Mills. The party begins at 5:00 p.m. followed by a birthday gala featuring homemade ice cream and cake.
August 1, 2010 - Homecoming Sunday with Bishop Herman Yoos of the South Carolina Synod of the ELCA as our special guest ho will deliver the sermon. A delicious covered dish luncheon will follow with outstanding entertainment in the Fellowship Hall.
September 23, 2010 - Honoring Service to the church - The service will be in memory of Pastor George Benet Shealy, a ministerial son of the congregation.
October 10, 2010 - Honoring Service to the church - The service will be in memory of Pastor Alvin Fulmer, a ministerial son of the congregation.
ONGOING 100th ANNIVERSARY PROJECTS
100th Anniversary Pictorial Directory -- Ashley Moore and Faye Halfacre will coordinate a new pictorial directory that will include extra pages high-lighting the history of the congregation.
Community Service -- During the year, Summer Memorial will be involved with a number of projects to help the community.
Remembering -- During the years, a number of different items will be shared as a way of remembering the anniversary. One of the most exciting will be a wooden 4 by 6 inch picture of the church which will be given to each family in the congregation. Additional copies may be ordered in the narthex beginning on January 10th. In addition, magnets will be given out to put on refrigerators to remember the anniversary.
