About Us

HISTORY

A Lutheran congregation was organized in the Mollohon mill village of south Newberry on Sunday, July 24, 1910, with 26 charter members. Worship was held in the mill's Union Building, also shared by other denominations. The Rev. J.D. Shealy, the organizer and first pastor, conducted worship twice monthly. By October, a separate facility was desired. George Summer, Jr. and his brothers, Charles and John, built a church as a memorial to their parents, George Walter Summer, Sr. and Martha Delilah Epting Summer. The cornerstone was laid on July 8, 1911 and the building was completed later that year. More...
